Perth Bears recruits Morgan Smithies and Scott Sorensen have been selected for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Smithies has been named in England’s final 23-player squad, while Sorensen has secured his place in New Zealand’s squad, with both teams announced on Tuesday.

Bears fans will have the opportunity to cheer on Smithies in Perth, with England playing two matches at HBF Park. England will face Tonga on Saturday 17 October before taking on France on Saturday 24 October.

Sorensen returns for his second World Cup campaign, having made his international debut for the Kiwis during the 2022 tournament.

The Rugby League World Cup kicks off on Thursday 15 October with Australia facing New Zealand at Allianz Stadium.

The tournament will be hosted across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, with the final to be played at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday 15 November.
