Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (2023-2026)
Biography:

Graduating through the Canterbury-Bankstown pathways and possessing electric baseline acceleration, outside back Jonathan Sua methodically developed his explosive finishing abilities in Sydney before catching the attention of the wider rugby league community. The 22-year-old flanker turned heads by establishing an astonishing reserve-grade strike rate, crossing the line for 47 tries in just 50 NSW Cup appearances for the Bulldogs. His high-intensity style and raw speed earned him a highly anticipated NRL first-grade debut against the North Queensland Cowboys in late 2024, where he instantly showcased his top-flight readiness by racking up a massive 175 running metres.

Sua's progression into senior football highlighted his capacity to seamlessly translate reserve-grade dominance into elite top-tier impact. Recognised across the pathways system as one of the swiftest and most dangerous wingers in the development ranks, he continued to build valuable topflight depth in Sydney over subsequent campaigns. Beyond his innate knack for crossing the try-line, the young flyer is heavily regarded for his strong work ethic out of his own half, regularly utilising his agility and post-contact drive to consistently launch sets and relieve pressure for his forward pack.

Agreeing to a significant multi-year move to Western Australia, Sua has put pen to paper on a three-year contract to link up with the Perth Bears for their historic entry into the NRL spanning the 2027 through 2029 seasons. The rare prospect of pioneering an entirely new professional sporting franchise from the ground up served as a monumental catalyst for the young speedster. The Bears view his acquisition as a strategic recruitment victory, securing a high-upside athlete ready to lock down a permanent first-grade position and inject explosive edge strike-power into the team's inaugural outside back rotation.

Head Coach Mal Meninga indicated that the rapid flanker was a prime target for the incoming expansion club's foundational roster strategy.

"Jon was a player we targeted early in our recruitment drive and I'm very happy he chose to be a Bear," Meninga said. "He has progressed well through the 2026 season and proven he can play at NRL level. His effort levels playing on the wing have been excellent."
