Biography:

Growing up in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Luke Smith played his junior football for the Denman Devils before moving to Sydney after signing a development deal with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. A powerful back-rower and centre with a reputation for grit and athleticism, Smith quickly established himself as a leader within the Bulldogs' pathway system, eventually captaining their Jersey Flegg Cup side.

Smith's consistent development across the Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup ranks was rewarded in Round 11 of the 2025 NRL season. He made his first-grade debut for Canterbury off the bench in a thrilling 24–20 victory over the Sydney Roosters at Accor Stadium, going on to feature again in the topflight later that season.

Seeking to accelerate his development with regular first-grade football, the 22-year-old made a unique, strategic move ahead of the 2026 season. He signed a one-year deal with the London Broncos in the RFL Championship, using the UK stint as a platform to refine his game. The move paid immediate dividends, with Smith taking the competition by storm and breaking the all-time club record for the most tries scored by a London Broncos forward in a single season.

Now locked in to return down under, Smith has signed a two-year deal with the Perth Bears for their inaugural NRL campaigns in 2027 and 2028. Arriving in Western Australia with serious muscle, versatile scoring power, and valuable international experience, the Bears view him as a foundational piece of their edge rotation.

Head Coach Mal Meninga noted that Smith was precisely the type of hungry, dynamic young prospects the club needs.

"Luke is an exciting prospect who will play an important role for our club in 2027 and beyond," Meninga said.
