Biography:

Hailing from the Northend region in New Zealand, Mason Barber first showcased his immense potential as a graduate of the prestigious Keebra Park State High School on the Gold Coast, earning selection in the Australian Schoolboys side in 2024 before entering the North Queensland Cowboys system.

Barber's transition to senior football progressed rapidly in 2026. Playing for the Cowboys' feeder side, the Mackay Cutters, the young outside back became a dominant force in the Queensland Cup. Across 10 appearances, he proved to be an absolute handful for opposition defences, racking up 36 tackle breaks, providing six try assists, and averaging an impressive 119 running metres per game.

Equipped with blistering speed, raw power, and elite ball-playing skills, the 20-year-old utility back is equally at home at fullback or centre. Possessing a rare blend of athletic traits and high football IQ, he has been heavily identified as one of the most exciting and prized young prospects in the game today.

Committed to a long-term future in Western Australia, Barber has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Perth Bears that extends until at least the end of 2029. Joining a roster deliberately built around elite youth and long-term potential, he arrives ready to make an immediate impact in the topflight and anchor the Bears' backline for years to come.
Head Coach Mal Meninga said Barber is a sublimely talented player who has been on the expansion franchise's radar for a long time.

"He has the skill and character to make an impact for us right away while also becoming a cornerstone for the club for years to come," Meninga said.
