Biography:

Born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, Harry Newman attended Holmfirth High School and played for the local Newsome Panthers club before joining the Leeds Rhinos Scholarship programme in 2014, beginning a rugby league journey that would take him to the very top of the English game.

Newman made his Super League debut for Leeds against Wigan Warriors in 2017 at just 17-years-old, before spending time on dual registration with Featherstone Rovers in 2018 and 2019, where he was in electric form, scoring 21 tries in 18 appearances. That form forced his way into the Leeds first team, and by 19 he had become the club's first-choice centre — a rapid rise that saw the Rhinos entrust him with the role vacated by former captain Kallum Watkins' move to the NRL.

Newman's talent was rewarded in 2020 when he was named the Super League Young Player of the Year, the same season he was part of the Leeds squad that won the Challenge Cup Final, though injury denied him the chance to play in the decider itself. Since making his debut, Newman has gone on to play 135 Super League games across his career with Leeds and Featherstone, becoming one of the competition's most dynamic and dependable centres.

His performances for Leeds have consistently earned representative honours, with Newman capped seven times for England, including a call-up for the third Test of the 2025 Ashes series against the Kangaroos.

"Harry is exactly the calibre of international we want building the foundations of this club, and I'm confident he'll bring that same quality to the NRL,” Head Coach Mal Meninga said.
